Dang... it's been a minute.

Yea its been a minute... AND THAT'S FINE! Being a teacher is no joke and there is A LOT of work involved. Just because your school director says your work day is 7:30 to 4:30 don't mean a dang thing, being that I was at my school from 7:15 to 10:00... and that's 10 PM if you didn't catch that. There's always something to be done, lesson plans to be improved upon, adding to the "math word wall", tweaking of the investment plan, updating objective tracking, grading papers, recording grades... and the list goes on. It's a bit depressing to walk out to the parking lot in pitch dark to find your car to be the last except for the few pickups of the guys finishing renovations on the school. But that's what we do, and the second I begin to question why do we work so hard? I'm easily reminded when walking through our halls and remember the little statistic situated by the exit of my class: Researchers say that 51% of you will not graduate from high school and 84% of you will not graduate from college. That speaks enough. You see I've already found out that being a teacher is easy, but being a good teacher is ridiculously hard. But the thing is the accountability that comes with this job is so much heavier than any other because you have destinies in your hand. One action you carry out today could affect that child for the rest of their life, good or bad. Now there's something that'll keep you up at night. So yes, I'm busy but I love it. I've come to figure out that I actually am best when I overwork to the point where I barely have a second to rest. That's my niche.

I'd like to thank those of you who have asked if everything is alright because they haven't from me, Jesse Nathaniel, or those who encouraged me to keep writing because they actually enjoy my thoughts lol (thanks Lyric), because it has been awhile since I wrote and I'm glad I'm taking away from my sleep time to do this... School has been going well, we are almost through a full week of real school although we've had the students for the last 3 weeks. Collectively, the kids are good, behavioral problems haven't got out of hand and they do decently well with the material. Oh and I would like to say open house is a great event as a teacher, I can't remember how many times I was told... "if you have any problems, do not hesitate to call me and I will show up" or "I give you the permission to beat his behind if you need too." Haha, greatness. Gotta love the parents.

Although I'm busy, I gotta say I'm loving life right now. The challenge of teaching is definitely welcomed and is something that stretches your limits. Shout out to all my TFAers in the struggle, especially those who are still looking to get placed. Keep yall heads up. Special shout out to Dera, suwu-ing it down there in Houston teaching at Revere. I know you gonna give them the biz like only you know how (and that's fine). Lastly I want to say I'm proud of my boo for staying positive and motivated while remaining patient, nothing makes me more happy than seeing you happy.

That's it for now, so to my teachers I must remind you... we can't just teach, we must change.
